GCSE Results @ Read
We are overjoyed to announce our best ever GCSE results this year. This year’s cohort had a very interrupted start to their Senior School education with the Covid pandemic and have consistently demonstrated their resilience throughout the last year. Whilst nationally the pass rate across England has fallen for the third year running, with 67.6% of all grates this year being at 4/C and above, Read School once again has bucked this trend, achieving an outstanding 88% pass rate. 24% of grades were within the top tier of results (grade 7-9) which demonstrates just how talented this year’s cohort is.
Whilst all of our students have performed incredibly well, a special mention must go to Evelyn Crompton who achieved eight Grade 9s and one Grade 8 this year.
Over her years at Read School, Evelyn has certainly never stayed still for long. From representing the school in county level hockey, to studying Violin with virtuoso Nicola Benedetti, Evelyn has truly excelled at every opportunity. Evelyn’s hard work and determination in every area has seen her achieve some of Read School’s best results this year.
Proud parents, Helen and Ian commented 'Evelyn has excelled since joining Read School in Year 6. From the moment she walked into the building she was made to feel like she'd always been a part of the school and was thrown into, not only academia, but also music, drama and sporting activities. As well as Read School having a great family environment, the vast array of opportunities that Read has offered can be reflected in her eight grade 9s and one grade 8 GCSE results. All of these factors have contributed to our decision for Evelyn to remain at Read for her A levels. We would like to thank the school for everything they have done for Evelyn'.
Other successes include Ukranian national, Maksym Bondarchuk who achieved 5 x grades 9's, 4 x grade 8 and 1 grade 6 this year and Finley Woodroffe in Year 10 took Maths, Further Maths and Computer Science a year early, securing 3 x grade 9's.
Read School has a fantastic and well-earned reputation for seeing the potential in every student, and helping those students excel far beyond their previous expectations. Read School tailors its educational provision to each and every child so they are able to thrive. We do not limit our students, but take a far more student-led holistic approach to their school life, where they become not just academically successful but also well rounded and confident members of society. This year’s cohort are a wonderful example of this. As well as success in sports, CCF and D of E they also have had phenomenal experiences during overseas educational visits and a myriad of confidence-boosting opportunities. Our RAF contingent leave for a camp tomorrow, which is a prime example of how Read never sleeps.
Congratulations, Year 11, from the entire Read School community. We are incredibly proud of you, and are looking forward to welcoming many of you back this September for Sixth Form.
Head teacher Ruth Ainley stated “I am beyond delighted with our result at the whole school level and also in terms of individual outcomes and the hard work of pupils and teachers has certainly paid off.”
